Come sail with us! Through the spring, summer, and fall, the Sailing Committee offers sailing around the harbor led by some of the club's best skippers.

This is a great way to have fun on the water, get integrated with the Club's sailing scene, and get to know your fellow sailors. Activities get underway around 1400, but check in on VHF channel 69 if you arrive later, or have the Watch Officer on duty call out to the skippers.

Whether you're looking for some casual time on the water or some skill-building under the supervision of a more senior captain, come on out with us on the club's Cal 20 keelboats. If you are working toward being qualified to take out and skipper club boats, Sundays are a great way to practice, strengthen your sailing skills and confidence, and increase your sailing experience.

Learn to sail! This is a safe and fun way for youth ages 8-18 to learn how to sail in either an Optimist (Opti) or Laser. Both boats are extremely popular recreational dinghies that also feature prominently in competition.

This class teaches basic sailing as well as developing confidence and seamanship. Although no experience is necessary, campers must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket.

In our fun-filled camps, students will learn:
    • Basic sailing skills, in their own boats
    • Water safety skills
    • How to read the wind
    • Critical thinking skills, as they navigate a boat among a small group of other boats
    • Teamwork, as they work in small groups to rig and sail boats
    • Leadership skills, as they skipper a boat and direct a crew member

Camp is M-F from 8:30am to 3:30pm each day. Campers will need to bring their own lunches.

Sign up now—boat availability is limited and assigned based on early registration and experience.

Registration is not guaranteed until full payment is received, and liability/medical release form is signed & turned in to the office.

    Saturday Youth Sailing

Now that you've learned to sail, keep practicing! And maybe get ready for the upcoming Harvest Youth Regatta on 10 November at HMBYC.

This series takes place every other Saturday from 25 August through 03 November, 0900-1300 each day. Our lead instructor will be on hand at all times, along with additional instructors from the 2018 summer camp season, to help you learn advanced sailing skills and the details of racing. (Hint: it's more than just boat handling....)

Choose Opti's, Lasers, or FJ's as you prefer; the regatta is open to all of those classes.

Please note: this is not a learn-to-sail event. Participants are expected to have basic sailing knowledge and experience, equivalent to at least one week of HMBYC's summer youth sailing camp.

Registration covers all 6 sessions for a single fee. Registration is not guaranteed until full payment is received, and liability/medical release form is signed & turned in to the office.

For more information, please contact the Youth Sailing Director, Des Cullen.

(This series is open to current HMBYC members only, including youth members. Any sailor who attended camp during the current calendar year is a youth member of the club for the remainder of 2018. If you are having difficulty registering, please contact Des Cullen.)
